Hear the Drums' new album for free!

I've expressed my favorable opinion of the Drums several times on this blog, but now you can hear for yourself!!!
 http://tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/08/29/now-playing-portamento-the-new-album-by-the-drums/

Don't forget they are coming to Subterranean 10/4!!!

Favorite tracks: Money, (as mentioned in previous entry) I Need a Doctor,  Days, How It Ended,

It reminds me of Nick from Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist (those breakup mixes he made for Tris?) yeah all of the tracks I liked would definitely be on those!

More Tokyo Police Club-NEW LINK ADDED + wise words from Dave Grohl

This track  featuring mega talented Australian/female guitarist Orianthi is the kind of rock and roll i've been waiting to come out for a long time!http://www.somekindofawesome.com/journal/2011/8/29/listen-tokyo-police-club-little-sister-feat-orianthi-queens.html

Dave Grohl told people not to lose hope for Rock n' Roll at the MTV VMA' and this chick IS Rock n' Roll skip to 2:14 for her guitar solo!

Also, in honor of one of my favorite Rock Gods Dave Grohl, Waaves did a pretty sweet tribute song to him:

RCHP + Nirvana Cover + Death Cab (ALL HALE THE 90'S_

Today's inspiration started with a little Red Hot Chili Peppers-who released the single from their new album which is FANTASTIC!-- I haven't listened to the whole album yet, only the first 5 tracks and this is by far the best one I've heard, the rest while good, doesn't have the edge and are pleasant enough but not groundbreaking. I'll give you an update once I've heard it all.

http://www.mtv.com/videos/red-hot-chili-peppers/682371/the-adventures-of-rain-dance-maggie.jhtml

This turned into an exploration of my teen years (the 90's going back to my teen heart throbs and where are they nows?--then I came upon this Nirvana cover done by actor Joseph Gordon Levitt (Inception/500 Days of Summer)

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/25/joseph-gordon-levitt-covers-lithium-nirvana_n_936458.html

I didn't listen to the whole thing yet but if he did it any justice he's cool in my book. (he already is cool in my book since he co starred in a fantastic movie with my muse Zooey Deschanel!

& While we are off topic I want to reccommend a book that should be my mantra! (Stupid & Contagious by Caprice Crane)

it combines all of my favorite things (annoying/persistant/socially intolerant heroine) + tons of music references+my favorite 80's movie quotes in between chapters!-- yes it is techincally catagorized as ''Chick Lit'' which I normally hate, but its very savvy, and smart. and sarcastic. all of my favorite things) + it talks about the importance of choosing the first single to launch a band. If you release the wrong single the band will not be a success! First Impressions are everything guys! and Honestly, it's a gift I possess!, test me if you'd like! I've talked about the importance/prediction of this on several entries here!

and if that's not enough info for you--the author is also the daughter of Ginger from Gilligan's Island + a former intern at MTV:)! wow if I could have a "Big''/''Trading Places'' moment with this chick I would!

Death Cab comes to Chi tonight, I will give you a full report soon, but here is something to hold you over! a studio session performance of my personal favorites Stay Young Go Dancing + Soul Meets Body

''Ethereal Goddesses'' go mainstream

First and Foremost, I have to talk about Florence Welch (Florence + the Machine)
She brought back this Stevie Nicks cool chick vibe, that made female singers with raspy voices and a darker edge cool.

Although let's get real Stevie never Really left/ or was forgotten about, Flo just brought it back to maintream with Cosmic Love,  and Dog Days songs brought to mainstream through movie soundtracks, tv episodes and commercials.(which is naturally where I began to grow completely tired and annoyed of the songs) beside the point..

Here is Florence's new single:---

http://www.somekindofawesome.com/journal/2011/8/23/watch-florence-the-machine-what-the-water-gave-me-official-v.html

I Love This!- the way it starts off in true Flo fashion  showcasing just her vocals, then building gradually with the instruments & background choral element. Almost reminds me of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep''--funny next day I read this article on the track and found it was produced by the same guy (Paul Epworth)--read article on spinner.com

(Anyone remember the Theme from the 80's movie Lost Boys??- If not check this out real quick: http://www.youtube.com/watchv=mrMLMV6E4CM&feature=related

''remember the choir boy part ''Thou Shall Not Faaalll... Thou Shall Not Feeaaar'' same idea!

Okay on to a younger generation of Florence + the Machine: Say Hello to Marina & The Diamonds

combine Flo + Madonna's ''Like A Prayer,'' and you get the track ''Fear & Loathing''
http://www.somekindofawesome.com/journal/2011/8/23/watch-marina-and-the-diamonds-fear-and-loathing-x-radioactiv.html

This appeals to my darker edgy side:) and the thing I"m most thankful for in both these ladies, is the both videos refused to give up any artistic license and kept their individuality no matter how abstract and it doesn't come across as gimmicky or being crazy for crazy's sake. It all still all works!

Now to prove that she's not all dark and twisty, pain & angsty, to show you some range the 2nd track ''Radioactive, you can definitely hear in a club somewhere--can't wait to hear the reminx to this!:0)

Lady Gaga move over, I predict that Marina will take your crown of glory very very soon!! thank goodness too because the last two gaga releases are complete garbage!:)

(Pre Lolla) The Vaccines, The Drums & BEST Foo Fighters cover!

the Vaccines (they are playing at Lolla) http://nylonmag.com/nylonblogs/blog/2011/07/13/music-video-the-vaccines/
(just announced they will be playing at Lincoln Hall on 9/21 as well as at Lolla)!--www.lincolnhallchicago.com

Guaranteed this song will be stuck in your head all day once you listen to them!

Ximena Sarinana- Shine Down www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2vhQFMcXgw

I love this song! You can download it for free on Itunes! just search forher name and the song..

I  posted it a few months ago on FB but her new album is not really a reflection of this track, the Label released another first single ''Different'' which is very sugared pop song that you would most likely hear from a teen star like Demi Lovato or Selena Gomez,--while they are of Latina descent I don't think Ximena should be herded into that category:(--she can have a more edgy appeal)

Also, I think I found the best cover of Foo Fighters I've ever seen--this guy could be my soulmate, British, soulful & He's got a picture of Marvin Gaye on his radiator! www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9kZQ1DEJPw
